Welcome Message

by admin last modified 2006-04-11 11:19

Welcome to the Computer Science Department at TTU. Our faculty are glad that you are interested in pursuing your academic goals here and we will work diligently to help you succeed in this effort.

Our curriculum is designed to educate students in all basic areas of computer science including general problem solving techniques. Computer science at TTU is a technical major program, which combines broad experience in the arts and sciences with professional training in the area of computer science. Mathematics is heavily emphasized.

Every year, our students participate and compete successfully in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest sponsored by IBM. We serve as a local competition site for the contest and often host teams from schools such as Austin Peay State University, MTSU, UT-Knoxville, Western Kentucky University, Belmont University, the University of the South, Union University, and Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the past two years of the competition (2002-2003 and 2003-2004) TTU was the only university in the state of Tennessee to finish in the top ten in the region. Also in April 2003, our students placed first in the IEEE Southeastern Conference's programming contest held in Jamaica.

Virtually every industry uses computers in a variety of ways - from computerized control of hazardous and remote environments to payroll processing in traditional industries. Thus, opportunities for computer science graduates are limitless. Our graduates are regularly recruited by industry, government and businesses for computing careers in a variety of areas including systems design, internet computing, network administration and software engineering.
